Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Jeff N — 19 Jan 2010
I might have to watch it about 3 more times to fully understand. Kaufman is surely one of a kind. He shoots for alot of humor in his earlier movies, but not so much here. Themes of death, loss, how we live our lives, and all kinds of other shit bleed through this film.
I especially like one of the closing monologues. It stayed with me long afterwards. I wish more of the film did. I'll probably buy it and give it another shot. Surprisingly, Roger Ebert awarded this movie best movie of the decade.
Entertainment Weekly gave it an F. There's a case for both.
