Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Feli Y — 17 May 2011
Synecdoche is an example of a movie realizing the lack of boundaries the film medium presents. The result is rather grand to be sure, but, after the impact of seeing something of this scale fades away, there's little left but dust.
It seems the closer the movie gets to the end the more it realizes it really has no idea what it is it set out to do. On the plus side, this is surprisingly perfect for it, and prohibits me from not recommending a watch but, on the negative side, there's nothing that could be redeeming enough to justify beating one over the head with what this movie does.
