Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by William W — 17 Sep 2009
Park Chan-Wook kick-starts his renowned Vengeance Trilogy with this bleak, uncompromising take on the cycle of violence and our capacity for revenge. We may not like some of the main characters, but we are with them on every step of their painful journey.
Out of Park's revenge-themed films, this is certainly the most depressing and least sleek of the three. However, this does not diminish the power and quality of the story. Definitely worth the time, but not for the faint of heart or weak stomachs.
