Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by Shannon M — 15 Nov 2009
Destined to be the one of the trilogy nominated by people who are wrong as "the best" due to being slower paced and less overtly entertaining than the other two, which are rather like having film-noir fireworks full of whiskey let off in your head.
MR VENGEANCE is still well worth a look and has plenty to recommend it, not least another great performance from Song Kang-Ho, who can do anything. Focused more on the random pitiless nature of life on Earth and the numbing pointlessness of violence, and as such is probably more squirm-inducing and far less "crazy" than the other two.
A fine film nonetheless, and I love it in a smaller way. Avoid if you do not like Slow Horrible Stabbings.
