Review of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) by Rakesh N — 04 Jun 2011
Being one of the earliest revenge films from south korea that made it big, this one was entertaining enough but still too long in duration. My constant irk with s.korean cinema is the over indulgence of the revenge film directors which is the need to wring out every possible degree of revenge madness to give the sudience the ultimate bang for their korean won/dollar. In this quest, the director begins making loopholes in the film that really bugs me. South korea movies on crime and revenge always takes this same familiar route. The good story/plot just goes to pots after 40mins in the movie. I would just call this movie the roundtable revenge.
Doo na bae the sidekick lover of the deaf mute resembles an actress in the category of audrey tatou and zooey deschanel.
