Review of Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale (2017) by Rupert E — 16 Mar 2017

A wasted effort that diminishes the SAO franchise.

I am a fan of the original SAO anime series, especially the first arc, but I don't watch a lot of anime and therefore I am not an anime nerd.

Ordinal Scale has a reasonable premise, and some of the early fight scenes are good, and it's take on what VR games and technology could look like is interesting.

However, it's plot becomes more unhinged as the movie progresses, the bad guys are pretty uninspiring and their motivations are suspect.

The final fight scene is completely self indulgent and ridiculous really.

Given the starting point I hoped for a lot more.
