Review of Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale (2017) by Devin%20 S — 16 Mar 2017

I have been a huge fan of the SAO series for a couple years at this point. While obviously SAO has never been 100% perfect as the many critics will love to put the entire series on blast, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this movie as I really hoped I would.

It is a feat to convey a good plot in 2 hours in contrast to having 12-24 episodes, but the movie did a pretty decent job of doing so. The antagonists weren't that amazing as I didn't really come to despise them, but they did their job of presenting something to be defeated by our main cast.

The visuals were somehow even more amazing than the already amazing visuals from the main series, and the effects in battles are definitely a site to see. I found myself cheering on Kirito and Asuna, which is to be expected but definitely makes you happy once the ultimate goal is finally achieved by the time the credits do roll.

I wasn't borderline crying like I was by the end of SAO 2, but the relationship between Kirito and Asuna always is touching. Oh and stay for the credits because they do pull a Marvel.
