Review of Swiss Family Robinson (1960) by Jake G — 12 Nov 2009
SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON is a movie I enjoyed immensely as a kid. Take that with a grain of salt, though, because I also loved SNOW DOGS at one point.
The island that the Robinson family land on is a lush tropical paradise, albeit one visited by pirates. Thank jeebus though, because these are of the Disney-fied, bumbling sort; unsavory enough, though, to be a threat to the Robinson family's happy hideaway.
The family lives in a fuckin' sweet tree house, the kind you dream of having as a kid before you learn what wasps and termites are. Coexisting happily with the zebras, and fighting life and death struggles with plastic snakes, the family lives a peaceful life.
You know, of course, that this kind of saccharine sweet fantasyland will not go unmolested long. From the high seas comes a motley crew, bent on G-rated destruction of the family. So gather up your huge boulders and pointed sticks, boys, we've got a pirate crew to humiliate!
