Review of Swimming Pool (2003) by Steen T — 07 Nov 2007
This movie, about a British writer (Charlotte Rampling) who goes to stay in France to find inspiration for her next book, has a great first half where almost nothing happens: she arrives, unpacks, strolls around the local village, writes, and meets the daughter of her publisher (who owns the house).
I got a bit annoyed at her emotional outbursts but I enjoyed the leisurely pace... And then it suddenly turns into a murder mystery with a moronic twist ending. Easily the worst conclusion to a movie since Shyamalan's horrid Signs and Moodyson's unforgiveable Lilya 4-ever - it completely ruined the good first half for me.
Very, very sad.
