Bernard schwartz proves he's more than just a pretty face in this acid masterpiece. lancaster's character, j.j. hunsecker, was based on all powerful new york gossip columnist walter winchell. famously razor-sharp dialogue largely by black-listed playwright clifford odets and marvelous direction on location by alexander mackendrick.
rip, tony curtis, last of hollywood's matinee idols.
