Review of Sweet Bird of Youth (1962) by Ghiuli R — 02 Dec 2009
Based on another of T. Williams plays, and although was censored according to the moralities of the day, still remains a strong movie today, mostly due to intense acting by Paul Newman and Geraldine Paige, to dialogue and to complex characters.
The movie is about the mirage of fame, about failing and accepting one's limitations.
Paul Newman is Chance Wayne, who dreams of having a illustrious career in Hollywood and is prepared to do anything in order to achieve it.
The movie begins when Chance returns home with his tail between his legs, a failure, without money, without fame, and trying to rekindle the flame with his old sweetheart.
A powerful movie, but not my favorite Williams adaptation, it would be interesting to see the play.
