Review of Sweet and Lowdown (1999) by Mrs E — 01 Feb 2010
A gem of a movie that is both a tribute to Jazz and Fellini's La Strada. Sean Penn is amazing and Morton does a perfect job playing the mute and adorable love interest. The mockumentary approach suits the material perfectly and it's great to see Allen book-end the film with his comments.
The jazz score is also an added bonus. Ultimately, this is Allen's best since Husbands and Wives.
