Review of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) by Trystan C — 23 Jul 2012
Like an old Edward Scissorhands, no longer naive to the world, Johnny Depp saunters off some kind of pirate ship ready to get some revenge done, straight-razor style.
The songs were a lot better than I thought, but a lot like "Across the Universe," the story takes the backseat to the songs, wasting 5 minutes on Helena Bonham Carter singing about what awful, cockroach-filled meatpies she makes when that precious time could be spent on something else.
I love revenge movies, but I lose my sympathy for the main character when he starts killing random people so that some crazy bitch can cook their remains into meatpies.
At the end, I wasn't sure how to feel, apart from blown away by the amount of brutal killings in this. This movie should've been called "There Will Be Blood.".
