Great movie. I knew very little about this musical going in, but it turned out to be a perfect fit for Tim Burton. His style blends beautifully with the dark subject matter involved. Johnny Depp returns from his journeys as a pirate (rather appropriately presented through the opening scene here) and proves he's as capable an actor as ever.
Not to mention a pretty good singer. The rest of the cast is also quite excellent, and the whole film is executed with great confidence and a wonderful sense of style. If you're a little squeamish, bear in mind that there is a LOT of blood in this film.
It's pretty fake looking, but it's also quite visceral to experience. Think Kill Bill's "House of Blue Leaves" sequence, only with more color. Still, a great movie, and another winner from the Burton-Depp association.
