Review of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) by Maha E — 30 Mar 2013
I can't label Depp as a bad actor, because that's pretty much impossible to defend. He and Carter are good at what they do. However, their performances in this adaptation of the Sondheim musical leave a lot to be desired.
The songs, especially Sweeney's, felt so emotionless compared to other versions from superior actors. Burton's attachment to Depp being a lead is his weakness. The other performances, however, especially from Alan Rickman, are wonderful.
