Review of Swamp Thing (1982) by Shawn M — 17 Jun 2008
Next to no budget, a cheesy rubber suit, b-list actors, and laughable sets and props. yep, this is one the best comic book movies ever. In a time where comic book movies were non-existant, Wes Craven dared to not only make one, but make one from an obscure character no one outside the comic stores had even heard of, which may explain why no one saw it.
But still, compared to the effects-laden in-accurate comic movies of today, Swamp Thing showed that a good comic movie comes from a good translation, NOT from CGI buldings blowing up, and Directors who want to make the character "their own".
While Alan Moores more cerebral interpretation of the character is no where to be seen, this is still one of the more accurate translations from 4-color to big screen(well, okay, you saw it on tv, late night, somewhere), and is a must for anyone that enjoys comics more than comic movies.
Way better than the abysmally boring Man-Thing adaption from a couple years ago. And as an added bonus, Adrienne Barbeau topless, worth the cost of renting right there.
