Review of Suspiria (2018) by Jacob T — 05 Nov 2018
I was getting a little concerned about how much buzz was surrounding this film before I saw it, but it TOTALLY delivered!! I loved almost everything about this! The acting was fabulous, the dance moves were visceral and gorgeous, and the story line was excellent.
The themes and metaphors present in this film are definitely excellent brain food, if you're a high need for cognition moviegoer. The only thing I didn't love was the old man. Admittedly, I heard about the actor in advance and I honestly thought I would have guessed who it was, even if I didn't know before hand.
I feel like his presence was important as a catalyst for propelling some explicit explanation of what was happening in the company, and maybe important as a metaphor for the ever present theme that things are not always what they seem to be.
I sort of felt the voice/mannerisms, and appearance of this character distracted a bit from the otherwise flawless beauty throughout the rest of the film. Overall though, I think this is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
I loved it and I can't wait to see it again! SIDE NOTE: Thom Yorke's score is FABULOUS! I ordered it before seeing the film and I will definitely be happily listening to it for a while!
