Review of Suspiria (1977) by Michael W — 20 Jan 2015
Arguably the best European horror film to come from the 1970's, Dario Argento's Suspiria carries the viewer through a beautifully shot fever-dream; an Alice in Wonderland type tale that stumbles across the sinister and supernatural side of an upscale German Dance School.
Rarely does a film hit the nail on the head in so many different departments; the score is an absolute classic in its own right, the photography redefined the limits of technicolor production, and the tale itself combines the 'who-dunnit' suspense of the slasher subgenre along with the foreboding tension of the supernatural film.
Truly a lightening in a bottle type of movie, Suspiria is one of those few movies that set the bar as an classic decades ago, and still stands as a pillar in horror movie history.
