Review of Suspiria (1977) by Alexandre R — 21 Apr 2009
I get the feeling they didn't quite know what they had while making this movie. The story is trite and the acting is a bit uneven, but the film has a wonderful sense of style and vision. The music is unique and memorable, if a little too omnipresent.
I could have also done without hearing the word "witch" every five seconds. The set design and cinematography really stand out, and the film does a great job of building suspense by not showing things.
Unfortunately this is totally forgotten in the last 10 minutes, which are just laughable. This isn't necessarily a good film, but it's definitely one worth emulating and learning from.
