Argento kicks off his "Three Mothers" trilogy with this hallucinatory classic in which a young ballet student discovers the prestigious dance academy she attends houses a coven of witches.
Like any "good" nightmare, narrative takes a back seat to the onslaught of terror in the form of trip-tastic horror imagery,a wildly unnerving score/audio assault and violence so well-crafted it's like murder poetry.
A superbly crafted exercise in hyper-active style, Suspiria is one-of-a- kind of horror art an audience "experiences" rather than simply watches.
