Review of Suspiria (1977) by John A — 26 Aug 2015
Dario Argento's Suspiria is a cult/exploitation supernatural horror masterpiece. The first in Argento's, Three Mothers trilogy, which focuses on witchcraft. The film stars Jessica Harper as an American student who uncovers a deadly coven of witches at her prestigious German dance academy.
As Europe's leading horror director Dario Argento's 1977 classic is a masterpiece of the modern macabre, using complex plotting, an excessive visual style (which involves experimental camerawork & lighting), excessive on-screen murders and an unnerving score courtesy of prog rock group Goblin.
MSuspiria is an epic European nightmare that's terrifying and is situated comfortably between arthouse & atrocity.
