Review of Suspiria (1977) by Nico S — 29 Oct 2016
A very different horror movie for its time. Kinda the opposite of the German Expressionism films from the 20s and 30s where they had very dimly lit sets and the sets of suspiria are very brightly lit with vibrant colours like pink, blue, yellow, green etc.
But that colour spectrum works very well with the tone that this movie sets along with the score by Goblin. Argento does a good job at building tension in a lot of scenes with the juxtapositions of noise and silence; static and dynamic shots, and each scene with a good, bloody pay-off.
A lot of filmmaking techniques used in this film is what's sorely lacking from a lot of horror movies today, but the same techniques are being mimicked in few movie but never as well done.
