Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Joseph S — 29 Apr 2010
This is the worst of Romero's "Of The Dead" movies. The remake of "The Crazies" he produced was better. This felt like it could have been a straight to video zombie flick made by any Romero imitator, not a master at work.
The attempt at sociological relevance is the thinnest it's ever been and the least entertaining to watch. A family feud on an island over run with zombies provides no scares, surprises, or laughs.
"Diary Of The Dead" was far from great, but at least had promise. On the island half the citizens refuse to kill their zombie family members insisting to keep them in barns or tied to their beds and Romero's franchise has become something similar; a familiar face preserved for nostalgia's sake long past it's rightful time of demise.
