Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by David A — 25 Aug 2010
So here is the latest entry in the "Dead" saga. Romero has truly an amazing saga here, Starting with Night, then Dawn, Day, and Land", the "Main" Storyline. So then he comes back last year and makes Diary of the dead, Which takes place back at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, during that film they encounter some army officers, these officers happen to be the characters of the newest entry.
So Diary was... okay, not great, not terrible so I thought hopefully "Survival" would be better. Survival took a new approach at the films and added a lot of over-the-top humor (Which I am a fan of.
I.E.: Drag me to hell & Dead Snow). The humor, I liked, it was fun and gave me some needed laughs. Now the storyline I thought was great. On Plum island the two sides of the island have a dispute on how to take care of the zombies, one side says kill them all and the other wants to keep some alive to try to train them into eating something besides human, and keeping loved ones alive in case a cure is ever found.
So then the army guys come in. They join up with a kid who tells them about a man advertising Plum Island to come and live at since it is isolated and peaceful (Besides the zombies). So the general idea and plot I loved, but the zombie killing in general could have been a LOT better, (besides the flaming head one on the ferry), and some of the twists I could have lived without.
So I liked it, again not great, not terrible, but Romero had a good idea there, just not the best execution. I just want Romero to go back to the "Main" storyline because I want to see how advanced the zombie outbreak is after "Land of the Dead".
Oh yeah, and the final shot in the film was soooooooooooo corny gah -__-.
