Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Manny C — 09 Sep 2010
Not everyone was warming to George A. Romero's sixth zombie flick, Survival of The Dead. Fine, there's Resident Evil, now turn your brain off. Romero is the zombie master, having kicked off with 1968's Night of The Living Dead, still one of the absolute greatest films of all time.
Of course Romero doesn't just make run-of-the-mill zombie flicks, there's always an underlying theme. Survival of The Dead focuses on senseless power struggles, one between two long-feuding Irish clans on the cozy Plum Island off the coast of Delaware.
Other than the subtext, there are also borderline slapstick ways to off zombies showcased (watch out for that fire extinguisher). For a guy whose first film was crafted way back in 1968, George A. Romero is still a master storyteller, with a clear, uncompromising vision.
He's also still incredibly fun. Need a good scare flick that won't insult your intelligence? Go for Survival of The Dead.
