Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Nicholas N — 26 Oct 2010
Survival Of The Dead. What a deeply unfortunate title. Romero's lost it - this is truly an affront to the Living Dead series. A completely bizarre plot sees Christian cowboys living on an island off the coast of Delaware, keeping their zombie relatives alive because it's 'God's will'.
They also happen to be stereotypically Oirish, begorrah. The troubles! - I wish I were making this up. The mercenaries who were in Diary Of The Dead for about five minutes wander into this ridiculous setup.
Oh, and there are zombies. A sluggish, clumsy character drama dolled up as a horror film, I am taking this as a sign of the once-great George A. Romero's abject senility. On top of everything, Romero is now passing off laughably awful CGI blood and thirty-second makeup jobs in place of the trailblazing Tom Savini effects of yore.
Every last performance - including the zombies - is abysmal. For hardened completists only.
