Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Paul G — 28 Oct 2010
I do not normally swear in reviews, but let me say fuck critics saying anything along the lines of "Romero isn't what he used to be," etc. in their reviews of Survival of the Dead.
OK, this movie is not good. And maybe Diary of the Dead was less than amazing. But 2005's Land of the Dead was a great movie. Many critics didn't like it because it's currently only "cool" to make a zombie movies of the following types 1) zombie comedy; and 2) zombies as live infected people. The classic zombie-as-dead is not "cool" right now. But people who don't care what's "cool" right now, i.e. every worthwhile movie critic (for one example, Roger Ebert), liked Land of the Dead, and did not consider Romero as depleted of all talent just because he made one shitty movie in Survival of the Dead. Romero doesn't always make awesome zombie movies. But if he could 5 years ago, I'm pretty sure he still can.
