Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Jamie C — 03 May 2011
George A. Romero is responsible for the greatest zombie film ever made,1978's Dawn Of The Dead. It was the second and best film in a classic trilogy. Years later Romero returned to zombie films with a new trilogy and unfortunately the first two were pretty disappointing, the third is no exception.
The story's not particularly good, there's some very lazy CGI and even the zombies aren't very convincing. The first trilogy were made on low budgets and were better for it. Like John Carpenter, another cult film maker, big budgets have spoiled Romeros film making skills.
When he didn't have the money or the technology he used his brain more and relied on his raw talent to make films and in my opinion it's this ingenuity that made them better. It's a shame that he'll never make another Dawn Of The Dead but on the off chance he might come close I'll keep watching,he deserves that much for giving us such a classic.
