Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Alejandro R — 26 Jun 2011
Why?
Survival of the Dead is latest installment in George A. Romero's long lasting Living Dead series. This time, it follows that one dickhead army guy that was in Diary of the Dead for like 2 seconds as he and his fellow band of merry men are on their way to an island they think will be safe...but it is over-run with not only zombies, but a battle between two different factions on opposite sides of the zombie loving line.
I was sorely disappointed with this film. From beginning to end, it felt like a straight to video, B-zombie flick, without any of the Romeroness that makes his zombie flicks great. It isn't scary, it has horrendous special effects, idiotic dialogue, and it doesn't even work as an unintentional comedy. They all try to find the most ridiculous ways to kill zombies, even when they have a very handy gun with them...they decide to kill them with pitchforks, flares, and even fire extinguishers. This film is above all stupid.
It's amazing how the mighty have fallen. Night, Dawn, Day, Land, and even Diary are all amazing in their own right...but Survival is just amazingly awful.
