Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Michael V — 16 Nov 2011
Romero is back again with what he does best. Badass Zombietry. Definately not his best chapter of his series but better then Diary. And I'd actually go as far to say 2nd to Dawn of the Dead. But that's just me.
He probably has amassed quite the fourtune but he stays true to his roots by still giving you a small budget horror film with the social commentary you'd expect. Though it isn't has heavy as previous outings.
But the themes of religion, Catholicism and fundamentalism are present along with the clash of old and new ideals. Another concurrent theme that appears in the Dead Series is the lack of cooperation and communication.
Giving way with this one a Hatfield and McCoy situation. And the two heads of the family. FANTASTIC JOB. I fully enjoyed their charcters and wanted to see more of them. Which brings me to really my only big gripe.
90 minutes long. Kinda sad with all that could have been told. I was left unstatsified. This wasn't made to change the genre but to build on and support. Thorughly enjoyable with some very very fun zombie gore you come to expect.
And the last closing scene the most brillant best thing I have ever seen in a zombie flick.
