Review of Surveillance (2008) by Jesse O — 11 Sep 2009
This movie is BOOOOOOORING. I'm not gonna say it's bad, because I don't think it is, it's just a very boring and plodding movie. The jury's still out on Jennifer Lynch as this is only her second movie and first in 15 years.
So who knows, maybe she just needs to keep trying until she finds her own identity as a filmmaker, she needs to do something that's drastically different from anything her father, David Lynch, has made.
Because if not, she'll always compared to her father, no matter what. And that's a shame as I feel that she has potential to, at least, be a good filmmaker if she keeps trying. With that said, I did like how the movie tied up its loose ends and the twist was interesting albeit a bit silly.
And I also liked the hint of dark comedy in some of the scenes. That's mostly where the two stars go as again I can't really recommend this movie at all, it's really boring and nothing really interesting happens until, maybe, 70 minutes into the movie and by then it's just too late and the movie really can't be saved.
But I do commend Jennifer Lynch for trying to do something different, it might not have paid off though as this isn't a very compelling movie but the way I see it Jennifer Lynch can only get better with time, so it'll be interesting to see where her career goes from here (if she chooses to stick with filmmaking that is).
