Review of Surveillance (2008) by Vince K — 11 Sep 2009
Great fucking second film from Jennifer Lynch, daughter of David Lynch. Her father put his name on this movie as Executive Producer, almost like saying "I love you honey, daddy will put his name on your small little film".
Not like producers ever do much for the movie. It always pisses me off how the producers collect the Academy Award when they win for best picture. This intriguing thriller blasts off with a great home invasion murder, then cuts to a police station visited by 2 FBI agents (played by Bill Pullman and Julia Ormond), who are there to investigate and question the survivors/witnesses of the following unfolding story (which cuts back and forth between this).
OK, that was complicated enough. 2 police officers (one of them played by 3rd Rock From The Sun's French Stewart in a great turn) like to fuck with people on the road by shooting out their tires and terrorizing them.
They do this to a family on vacation (Mom played by Cheir O'Teri, love how she says "I'm not having a very good time" before she is shot in the stomach), and the 2 drug addicts who stop behind them.
The police officers threaten both parties with rape and later the little girl comes up to them and tells them about the bloody van she saw pulled over on the side of the road. The van later arrives at the scene and shocking events unfold.
There's a great scene in the beginning with the 2 drug addicts, they go to their dealers house while he is shooting up and he dies in front of them. The chick is all like, "You fit what you can in your pockets, I'll put the rest in my purse".
Free drugs! The best part is how the 2 killers get away with it all in the end, and their undying love for eachother kind of reminded me of Mickey and Mallory from Natural Born Killers. Great film.
