Review of Supervixens (1975) by Robert B — 08 Jan 2010

This movie invoked a discussion between Pat and I regarding the nature of the presentation. In other words, we were at odds over whether or not this movie is a porno or just a dirty movie. There is a difference. I argued that this movie was just too silly to be taken seriously. At most, it might be softcore, but I found it hard to see it as offensive. Of course, my tastes are a little off kilter at times.

To be truthful, this movie, like Frankhooker, looked very much like a slide-show of my brain. Perverted activities done in the spirit of good will and fun, with bad acting, cheese ball bad guys and monstrously buxom women. These are a few of my favorite things.

Pat argued that the whole movie was just a ridiculous porno and I would be better off just watching a regular one, easily found on Richard's Realm. She has a point in a way. While we could never reach an accord on this issue, I can assure you that I love this movie. For many years, newsman Buzz Burbank has been preaching the goodness of Russ Meyer, and I can see why.

The story is about... well, there's that guy from the second Rambo movie. Yep. Then there are other people. Hmm... hey look, a car! All right, great. Oh yeah, there are boobs. Lots of them. Big ones. It's ridiculous. Be careful, or your TV may topple over from the sheer combined weight of all the sweater puppies in this movie. It's also funny, fun and impossible to hate. Russ Meyer is my new best friend! Well, he would be, except he is dead.

You are missed, Mr Meyer, I can assure you. In the meantime, I will go and find more of his movies. If they are all as wacky and ridiculous as this one, well... that is just super.
