Review of Superman Returns (2006) by Bryan D — 23 Oct 2012
This is another film that I really enjoyed that many people disliked. Growing up in the 1980's, and being a lifelong Superman fan, I felt this was a very grand homage to Richard Donner's original films (Donner directed the first and about 70% of Superman II.
There is even a cut out there of Richard Donner's "version"). Brandon Routh was amazing as the Man of Steel. He embodied the look and character, channeling the late great Christopher Reeve.
Bryan Singer added many beautiful touches to this film that was really nice to the Comic Book fans. And, it felt like a perfect book end film to the original two Superman movies. Kevin Spacey is a lot of fun as Lex Luthor.
I feel sad that this format won't be revisited as WB is rebooting Superman. But this film at least gave us a good closure to the originals.
