Review of Superman III (1983) by Forrest S — 23 Feb 2012
This really is a bad movie, horrendously bad, unforgivably bad, but I can't deny there is a decent measure of entertainment value despite it's dramatically low level of quality. Yes, it does pain me to see my beloved Richard Pryor in a movie he doesn't belong, and whose performance is a large part of the movie's problems, but it reminds me of "The Room" in that as awful as it is, it is undeniably watchable.
The need to inject campy humor throughout the film makes an embarrassment out of the two previous entries in the series, which are both legitimately strong films, and the plotline and villain are barely even elements in the picture.
Superman's had a rough history in film after the first two entries, and this can easily be attributed to this film, which is where things certainly took a turn for the worst. But the car wreck is still a thing of morbid fascination.
