Review of Superman III (1983) by Billie P — 08 Aug 2013
Superman III (1983) is an underappreciated film, believe it or not. Christopher Reeve reprises the role of Superman in this extremely jokey gimmicky Superman film. (To call the film jokey or gimmicky is not bad, necessarily, by the way, unless you don't like jokes or gimmicks.
) Richard Pryor appears here, playing the role of a guy who is down on his lack but has a natural aptitude for working with computers, even and especially when that involves manipulating computers for bad, for example in snatching the fractions of cents from employees' paychecks or in building a computer to combat Superman.
Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) gets short shrift in this film, and it's true that the gal Kal-El meets, qua Clark Kent when he goes back to his Smallville high school reunion, is quite annoying, the film is quite quite enjoyable.
Ooh, and you get to see a dark side of Superman. In this film, Superman battles an evil villain, booze, chasing after women, and literally himself. Please don't miss this film just because of the negative reviews.
The film is rather charming.
