Review of Superman II (1980) by Anh H — 07 Aug 2014
This is the first time I've watched the original and the director's cut of Superman II back-to-back. I like them both. The theatrical version is more jokey and slapstick, but I think Richard Lester's different take on scenes like Lois' moment of truth and the villains' lengthier arrival in middle America play better than they do in the director's cut.
"Superman II" is missing the down home joy of the first hour of "Superman", and it suffers from the same problems I have with this version of Lex Luthor. The plot, though, is exciting and the fight scene remains as epic as ever.
