Review of Superman II (1980) by Marischa B — 17 Dec 2009
There are a few reasons why I didn't like Superman II. Clark Kent can run nearly the speed of light, he's not going to trip on a rug while walking across a room. After Clark loses his powers a series of stupid things happen most notably Lois and Clark evidently walk the 400 miles or so to an Alskian diner where Clark proves he has schizophrenia.
He's still acting like a chump, and the best a 6'4 225 lbs Kansas farm boy can muster is to get his face kicked in. Then we find out that the world has been taken over by Kryptonians. Clark has to walk back to the North Pole a feat he evidently accomplishes in less than a day.
Dumb. Then the fight scenes. These are some of the worst looking fight/flight scenes in movie making history. They look clumsy even laughable. We all pretty much know the story, so, I'll skip to the end, the part that really annoys me.
Superman as Clark Kent goes back to the diner and pretty much beats down the trucker who kicked his face in. Superman doesn't trip on rugs, he doesn't start fights out of revenge and he doesn't hold grudges against absolutely inconsequential people.
Also dumb.
