Review of Superman II (1980) by Conner R — 23 May 2010
For me this was every bit as iconic as the first film and an improvement in many areas. A huge disappointment however was the cut of Marlon Brando's Jor-El, an example of actor versus studio politics gone bad.
Reeves was every ounce of perfection again as Superman but the show stealing performance belongs to Terrence Stamp who gives a memorable performance as General Zod, a much better villain than Hackman's joke as Lex Luthor.
Yes the special effects suffer from age but this is still a fine film and the last great Superman film. Thank god for Smallville, debuted in 2001, ending in 2011 which has brought Superman back from the brink for live action television.
