Review of Superman II (1980) by Shane M — 27 Jun 2013
Despite heavy use and being reliant on humor, it still is a perfectly made sequel that's just as good as the first one. Still has lots of humor and heart, and an impressive performance from Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel, has the same theme music, pretty good music, along with reasonable but dated special effects and visuals that still work, and the same ending as the first one, creating a tradition that always makes a perfect ending to the first two movies.
Also has action that corresponds well to General Zod's and his army's powers. If Richard Donner wasn't taken off the sequel, and Richard Lester didn't come and reshoot some of his scenes, the sequel would still be just as good as the first one, but better than this because Richard Donner is more focused on seriousness than humor (like how DC Comics movies are more serious than Marvel Comic movies).
Still enjoyable, and very fun to watch.
