Review of Superman: Doomsday (2007) by Thomas W — 24 May 2014
There was a comic out on the 90s that, if I remember rightly, caused quite of a bit of a stir at the time it was released, due to the (then) shocking cover: Superman, battered and bruised, lying dead on the ground. Of course, there was then a later comic in which he was brought back to life again ...
This film is based on that comic ('The Death of Superman'), although - not having read it - I can't say how closely it follows the source.
The first 30 minutes or so sees Superman facing off against the intergalactic killing machine known as Doomsday, eventually falling to his (supposed) death in one heck of a show-down in Metropolis - the best, perhaps, since Superman II?
This film, I felt, is in some respects actually superior to the more recent 'Man of Steel' :).
