Review of Superman: Doomsday (2007) by Michael W — 31 Dec 2007
I rabidly consumed superhero comics for a good 10 years but was never much into Superman. But I like him as a character and enjoy most superhero movies quite a lot. I was engaged start to finish in this movie, and it's a lot of fun.
I find Ann Heche somewhat annoying, but she does a GREAT job as Lois, and the other voice actors are also good in their roles. The story, if you don't know, is a storyline from the Superman comics (multiple titles) in the early 1990's.
Thanks to a great writing team, marketing, luck, and modern public awareness, the story became a media sensation. The mini-doc in the extras tells the whole story, but let's just say it moved A LOT of comic books and merchandise.
I can't speak to how the movie differs from the original comic storyline since I don't know what happened in the comic. But as a non-fan, I found it to be a tight story full of deep characters.
AND lot's of things get utterly destroyed. No one can quite do damage like the most powerful hero in comics. Maybe it would be nice to get another review in here from a fan boy/girl who can complain about the changes they made to the storyline to fit into 70 minutes, just like I do with Harry Potter movies.
..;) Rent this!
