Review of Superman: Doomsday (2007) by Aaron R — 04 Jul 2008
The recent Warner direct to DVD movies of Batman, Justice League and now Superman have been a welcome change to the campy kid skewed episodicals of the past. This take, drawing it's source on the mega-hit selling "Death of Superman" is no exception - it's directly adult narrative, punchy action sequences and a real menacing bad guy sets this apart as another notch in the good belt for the kids at Warner & DC Comics animation.
Whilst the front 30 minutes moves too fast for the real emotional kick to hit you, the narrative arc is surprisingly uncompromising. Superman bleeds, people die, kids are put in life threatening situations.
. Beautifully animated in 2D and at a cracking 75 minutes - I felt this puppy should be fattened out and shot live action to give it some real punch. Check it out - it's worth it.
