Review of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009) by Shawn-Ray M — 06 Aug 2010
I'll admit that DCUA movies have outweighed Marvel's Animated outings by far. Under The Red Hood was a great Batman film sans the absence of Kevin Conroy (which is present here, I might add). But Public Enemies doesn't shine like I wished it did.
As I stated, Kevin Conroy is doing the voice for Batman, and is the ONLY animated Batman as far as I'm concerned. He leads a pretty impressive voice cast, as well. Tim Daly, Clancy Brown, Xander Berkley, John C.
McGinley, CCH Pounder, and several others round it out. The animation style mimics Ed Guiness's artwork, which is freaking awesome! However, several things don't really add up. For starters, Solomon Grundy is not as smart as he was made here (though there was hint of him being mind-controlled, but still I don't think that's really possible for him).
Heroes like Starfire, who know and trust Batman and Superman, quickly go after them without hesitation, yet the public seems to accept that a known murderer and criminal like Major Force is legit? There isn't a whole lot here that makes sense.
I loved the comic arc where Luthor was President of the U.S., however it isn't really effective here without the lead in as to HOW he won as well as why all the heroes quickly sided with him and started distrusting Superman and Batman.
