Review of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009) by Garrett R — 27 Aug 2010

SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES is another solid and briskly entertaining Warner Bros. Animation production, featuring top-notch voice acting by Tim Daly as Superman and Kevin Conroy (of ARKAM ASYLUM) as Batman, and everyone's favorite meglomaniac Lex Luthor, voiced by Clancy Brown. Director Sam Lui directs the political and fugitive-on-the-run story with hyperactivity, a plus for PUBLIC ENEMIES. Speaking of hyperactivity, the action on display is just that and quite violent, even more so than TWO EARTHS or GOTHAM KNIGHT. Nonetheless, watching Superman and Batman pummeling supervillains never gets old, and never will!

The United State's economy is in turmoil and a recession has caused a panic among the American people. Lex Luthor is able to run and win the position of President of the United States, and in so doing sets a chain reaction of events (including a radioactive meteor hurtling towards Earth) to mark Superman a fugitive. Batman tag teams with him, as they both have a long kind-of friendship, even at the cost of his life. Then again, Superman and Batman have put their lives on the line in comics and graphic novels countless times to reassure someone that they won't go down easy! So, Superman and Batman have to ward off the supervillians trying to claim the 1 billion dollars on Superman's head and clear his name by revealing Lex Luthor to be nothing more than a fraud!

From here, PUBLIC ENEMIES includes many elements of DC Comics's recent DVD releases: inventive and exciting action violence, good one-liners, very solid voice acting, and a strong script (this time allowing for contemporary relevance to seep into the film's proceedings).

From the recent string of Warner Bros. Animation productions including Batman and Superman, this one is among the best of the bunch. See it for the inventive and exciting action violence, along with everything else I've mentioned! Be ready for more Critiques and Opinions on Every Movie I Can Get My Hands On!
