Review of Superbad (2007) by Davis B — 11 Jun 2013
Superbad becomes all it sets out to be, and then some. It's an airtight flick: the only instances in which our horny protagonists are distracted from their goal of obtaining alcohol is when the ultimate objective of getting laid is in clear sight (the menstrual grinding scene is a prime example.
) All conflict is brought about by the three teenagers' differing views on sex and what moral boundaries they are willing to cross in order to have it. Writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg crafted a wonderfully hilarious script that never goes too far out of its way to make a joke.
Greg Mottola was a great choice for a director who would guide rather than take control. And the actors killed it. Good stuff.
