Review of Super Size Me (2004) by Steven S — 14 Mar 2014
I should probably start off by saying my point of view on documentary films and that is even though I do not watch them very often and that's because I do not know very many of them, but its a category that I usually really enjoy because there's always something to learn from it and its message is so clear within the film and that's how I feel about them. As for the film Super Size Me is so far the absolute best documentary film that I have seen to this date and the title could not make any more sense. Its a film that has a clear message on the obese of every day Americans and the effects it has on us all.
The Film is about a guy named Morgan Spurlock who directs, writes, produces and stars in this film and he sets himself for a main goal to show how much Americans have become obese by eating nothing but McDonalds for a whole month and you heard it right. There is more to what he does with this like he sees three different doctors such as a cardiologists, gastroenterologists and general practitioner as well as a Nutritionist and personal trainer to help and keep track of his health over the course of the month. He also sets certain rules for when eating at McDonalds such as he has to eat three meals(breakfast, lunch and dinner), eat every item at least once, only eats at McDonalds(including bottle water because if McDonalds does not serve it, then he can not eat it), only and must eat a Supersize when offered and finally must get as least exercise as possible. He also travels across the country to try out different McDonalds like New York City and Texas and explains how these different fats food places work and what are other health concerns in America. Can he complete this task, well you have to see the movie to find out?
I love this movie because its message is so clear to understand and is quick to prove its point on how unhealthy that we have become as a nation and what should we do to change. And another point it proves that it is our choice to make these decisions that effects our health as a person and not just our body, but our personality as well.
