Review of Super Size Me (2004) by Jake A — 18 Aug 2017
This is more of a game show than a documentary. The parameters of this documentary are too extreme and unrealistic for anyone to jump into. Spurlock chose to participate in lifestyle which had minimal exercise as well as consume a high fat/sugar/calorie/etc diet.
It has never been a secret that fat food can be unhealthy and overconsumption would lead to health problems. All Spurlock does is eat three meal, in their entirety, of McDonald's and has to upgrade if asked to.
As documentaries go, they are intended to be more educational than entertainment. The outcome for this new lifestyle choice is obvious and only entertaining quality to see what happens to a person who goes to extremes to prove that this way of living is dangerous.
The true challenge would be to take the average amount of exercise for an American and eat as much as the average American consumes in fast food. This is more of a propaganda piece to condemn all fast food, rather than condemning unhealthy habits and lifestyles.
