Review of Super Size Me (2004) by Eric J — 27 May 2012
Do we really need to see a guy eating three times a day for 30 days at McDonald's to convince ourselves that fast food is bad for our health? Who doesn't know it by now? On the other hand I bet you if you ate just bananas for a month, your health would also deteriorate. The documentary makes a few good statements but most people don't have time enough to cook their own meals at home. Capitalism has made life fast-paced. That doesn't mean fast food should make up 75% of our meals.
It was revealing to see, though, the few choices US kids have in their public schools menus and how a healthy diet would roughly cost the same to taxpayers.
All in all an entertaining movie filled with anecdotes and easy jokes, but not a scientific documentary, which is what I was expecting. It's meant for a not very demanding and gullible public.
