I absolutely love this film and it seriously upsets me how everybody gives it so much shit. No, the LIVE ACTION film made in '90s AMERICA is nothing like the JAPANESE video game set in a fantasy world of talking mushrooms.
.. Why did you have expectations that it would be? At most it draws very, very slight ideas from the source material... Like names... and professions... That's about it, really... But, the movie is amazing, glorious, quotable, cute, and hilarious.
You should all adore it! It needs to be a cult classic.
